Bilingual childcare in Martinez and the Augusta area

Most programs that advertise Spanish mean a class. Twenty minutes, once or twice a week, usually taught by a visiting instructor, usually colors and numbers. Children enjoy it. It is not how anyone has ever learned a language.

At Acorn & Oak, Spanish is not a class. It is part of the day.

What “woven through the day” actually means

It means the routines that repeat are bilingual. Handwashing. Snack. Lining up. Naptime. Putting on shoes. The instruction a child hears forty times a week is the instruction they absorb — and a two-year-old who has heard vamos a lavarnos las manos every day since September is not translating it. They just know what it means.

It means songs, books and counting happen in both languages without announcement.

And it means no family has to choose. Children in our rooms who hear only English at home are not behind; children who hear only Spanish at home are not singled out. Both are ordinary here.

Who teaches it

Our classroom teachers bring Spanish into the day — songs, routines, and the curriculum itself — guided by our owner & founder, Perla Hughes, a former bilingual kindergarten and ESOL teacher.

That distinction matters more than a curriculum purchase. Spanish here is not a weekly class taught by a visitor — it is part of how our teachers run the day.

For Spanish-speaking families

If Spanish is the language of your home, enrollment and important conversations can happen in Spanish. You will not be handed a translated form and left to it.

Si el español es el idioma de su hogar, la inscripción y las conversaciones importantes pueden ser en español.

For English-speaking families

The most common question we get is whether early Spanish exposure will slow down English. In our experience it does not — children in bilingual environments sort out which language goes with which person remarkably early, and they do it without being taught.

The honest framing is this: we are not promising your child will be fluent at five. What we can tell you is that they will hear a second language daily during the years when hearing it is effortless, at no additional cost. What they do with that later is up to them. The window, though, does not stay open.

Where it sits in the day

Spanish is not billed as enrichment and cannot be opted out of, because it is not a slot on a schedule — it is the language half the room runs in. It is covered by your weekly rate like everything else. See what tuition includes.

Tours run at our current in-home program. Thirty minutes in the room tells you more about how a language is used than any page can.
